999

999
I called '999' for the very first time yesterday.
No, I didn't faint
Nor did Wolfie.

We were driving home after watching "World Invasion".
While going through the 'speed breaker' (aka 'the bump'), a car knocked us from behind.
Guess what?
He was drunk.
Still, he was not apologetic and uttered rubbish.
I was so mad, no way I was going to let him get away.
I called '999' - said a 'drunk' driver knocked our car from behind and I needed to get hold of the police.

I requested they send the police over, after all, this man was drunk.
The 'police-lady-reception' who took my call then said that I report to nearest traffic police station with the car no.

I then said, "Aren't you worried that this man is drunk? He is here, right in front of me, drunk. I thought the police takes drunk driving seriously? I know he has 24 hours to report an accident, by then wouldn't he be all sober? Aren't you worried that he continue to drive under influence and end up in another accident?"

After much persistent, they sent a police car over.

Without a breathalyzer.

Same advice, report to traffic police. They can't test him for alcohol because apparently only traffic police has a breathalyzer.

Anyway, by then his family came and this 'critter' was chauffeured home by his daughter.

Oh well, at least I know '999' works.
Mind you, when I called, they even know my phone line is registered under my hubby's name.
Amazing.

DO NOT DRINK AND DRIVE!
DRINK RESPONSIBLY!

Gees, it's too bad there were no consequences for this fellow driving drunk. He won't injure himself, but eventually he's likely to injure or kills someone else. We're glad YOU'RE okay!

This is just typical of the police in general these days - they ought to have taken him to a police station for a breath test - but suppose that would have interupted their meal break time. We hope he didn't damage your neck by rear ending car - did he damage it? - we hope not.
Take care Bin

This just makes me mad. Doesnt the person taking your call at that time realise that your life could have been in danger? He/she wants for your face to come out in newspaper as a victim baru regret ah?

Thank goodness you are OK!

I cannot believe the stupidity of driving drunk...and the police not arresting him! That's so not right. This idiot could kill somebody next time.

I am so happy that you are both ok! Drunk driving makes my BLOOD BOIL. My first husband was an alcoholic....he was picked up TWICE on DUI's (the second one he was caught driving left of center, he could have killed someone). He was put in jail for 20 days....you know what? He STILL didn't "get it"....which is why I divorced him. I didn't want to be around for when he God forbid killed someone. Yes the police need to take this MUCH more seriously!

Eeeek. I'm glad you're okay. I think it may be better to call Bkt Aman hotline directly...apparently they will despatch a police unit once they receive the details. Tapi tak tau how efficient la. :)

Hi Bin, we missed you and the kitties while we were away from visiting. We hope you are all doing ok. We think this story is just awful - shouldn't the police be the police in instances like this - not police and traffic police. So stupid. But we still think it is good to report it.
