Food Friday : Putu Mayam, Iddiyappam, (String Hoppers)

Yum, yum, yum.

It is Friday again, and all I can think of is FOOD.

One of my favourite breakfast hangout is place like this, a stall, roadside, sometimes with or without cement flooring, a few tables in the open, little kitties roaming around and can be quite hygienically challenged. Not for the poor in the stomach...

Putu Mayam, or "string hoppers" one of my favourite breakfast item.

In Malay, it is called Putu Mayam.

In Tamil, "Iddiyappam"

Putu Mayam is a South Indian dish, made of rice flour, water with or without coconut milk, squeeze through a special dough into sheets and then steamed.

It looks like 'noodle', commonly served with local brown sugar (gula melaka) and grated coconut.

The combination, sweet, rich, a little salty makes the taste buds go YAHOO!

Claypot Chicken Rice.

A popular dish in Malaysia (and several Asian countries).

It is rice in claypot cooked over charcoal stove with pieces of marinated chicken, dark soy sauce, sesame oil, salt, pepper and Chinese rice wine.

Commonly served with thin slices of Chinese sausages (added last) and also salted fish.

Yummy, yum, yum.

Food Friday : Fish & Chips

As I am siting here, staring at this very delicious Fish & Chips (not cheap..) I had in Denbenhams, Oxford.

Yummy - yum yum...

My all time favourite - oily and deep-fried, hey, its not that bad - there are peas!

Nowadays, good (cheap) Fish & Chips in Malaysia is hard to find.

Due to cost factor, businesses started cutting cost on the most important ingredient - the FISH!

Most of the time it is either tilapia or dory fillet.

Tilapia makes me puke because of the "sandy soil taste"

Dory taste like "soaked toilet paper"

Now, I can only dream..

D.R.E.A.M

Today's Friday - our PM will be announcing the Budget 2011 in the afternoon.

Now, don't he dare to announce cuts on healthcare or introduce certain silly national health scheme that'll never work (like GST, hey surprise - it has been postponed again!)!

Sexy Satay Saturday : Lucky

Lucky : Mom, I don't enjoy telling you this ( me : I am sure Lucky will...) ... but your legs are pretty big.

Mom : Hmmmmm.... so?

Lucky : Do you know, what a sexy leg is? 

Mom : What?

Big Fish Moment with Pizza Hut

Today is a typical "laze-in" Saturday morning for Meowmmy and us.

Summer : Meowmmy - I am hungry!!! I mean it - I'll eat trash if you don't do something soon...

Meowmmy : Eh, you go think of something my dear, after all - you are sooooo IT-savvy! You threw-up on Meommy's keyboard, remember?

Summer : Meowmmy ... I found something that we "both" can eat. Strange guy with a fish. Pizzah? Pizza Hut! He looks funny though..

Summer : Mom! I am talking to you. You wanna try pizzah or not? This Fish King Pizzah sounds so yummy! Look at those fish sticks..

Meowmmy : Okie, okie - u go order.

Summer : Mom, I am going ahead to order online now. Pizza Hut Malaysia - pizzah here I come!

(Hey, it has a "s" after "http" :- https://www.pizzahutonline.com.my/ - meaning all exchange of information is secure! Registration is a breeze and I can even pay online with Credit Card) -

Summer : Mom! I need your credit card (yeah, the one with some remaining "credit").

Summer : Now, let me fill in the credit card details ... 8888 8888 8888 8888

Summer : Buying pizzah is oh so easy! Fish King Combo I with chichkeh wings and 2 cans of PEPSI for about RM 32.50! Good deal - considering there are 13 of us, one Meowmmy.

Summer & Sunshine : Mom, we can hear the pizzah guy - he is playing with the door bell.

Summer : Gosh! That's one speedy gonzales! The pizzah came so quick!

Summer : Meowmmy's thumb up for presentation! Those sticks are so big and yummy plus cheese on the pizzah muah ... it is heavenly.

Summer : That's Salem  .. the 'eat-a-lot', plus "show-off"

Summer : Overall ... Meowmmy loves it. She never really liked fish and pizzah but she said she LIKES this!

Literally, Meowmmy is "hooked"!

As for us, we have mixed reaction - we still prefer our "greenies" BUT hey WE LOVED THE CHICKEN WINGS!

BAR-B-Q Plaza - IOI Mall Puchong

A little-green Thai dragon restaurant with lots of PORK! Yes ... bacon, glorious bacon .... yummy yum yum.

Sawadee ka/krap .... that's how the staff will greet you ...

My favourite is the Fried Bacon and Som Tum!!! Som Tum is just right , not too "pek" (spicy in Thai).

And not forgetting their BBQ - I like the fact that they don't marinate the meat.
I love the natural porky taste of it ... yummy .... yum yum ....


YES, I do love this place - will go anytime for their PORKY and SOM TUM!

Yong Peng's Fish Balls!

Yong Peng's Anthony Fish Balls - very yummy though balls are a little salty .. but then again, the broth taste rather weak and there the balls and the soup complements one another!

Eating at Dae Jang Gum today brings back all joy and pleasure I had watching "Jewel In the Place" and I couldn't help having this "Onara" song playing in my mind ...

With salad, free flow tea, 11 refillable side dishes, free desserts ... what more could we have asked for?

We had BBQ Pork Belly & Chicken, cooked right in front of us ....

And.... Kim Chi soup with Steamed Egg ...

Being a greedy "oink2" I ordered a set lunch as well, which was a great "value-for-money". Korean Chili Pork (Set2) tasted great, not too spicy, just right for my liking (it was hotter in Thailand, probably "localised"). Comes with "tempura??" too.

Set Lunch is RM14.90 with soup.

Total Bill came to : RM 118.90 for 2 person and a greedy "oink2" ...

Tuna Jok ....

I made Tuna Jok yesterday, my human "master" refused to eat it!

He said it looks, smells and would probably taste like cat food!! Aiyoyoyoyo....

I guess, next time, I'll stick to making tuna sandwiches....

Korean Tuna

Another discovery during lunch time, a Korean supermarket!

Korean Tuna - RM 12.90 for 4 cans!! (Why is it our AYAM brand so expensive ar?)

Will me making Tuna and Vegetables JOK very soon .... once I get the recipe!
